Mr. Mo Akhavani is a Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon and is on the GMC specialist register. His NHS practice is based at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London, with interests in upper limb reconstruction, skin cancer management, and general plastic surgery.
In the private sector, Mr. Akhavani specialises in all aspects of cosmetic surgery. He has expertise in body contouring, facial rejuvenation and aesthetic breast surgery with a specialist interest in minimal scar gynaecomastia surgery and body contouring.
Mr. Akhavani graduated from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in London and completed his plastic surgery training in London, Manchester and Toronto working with some of the leading plastic surgeons in the world. He has had extensive training in both reconstructive plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England having passed the specialist plastic surgery examination: the FRCS(Plast). He is one of the few plastic surgeons in the United Kingdom to hold both the British and European diplomas in Hand Surgery. He is a member of BAPRAS, BAAPS and the BSSH.
Mr. Akhavani is actively involved in research and his current research interest is in hand transplant funded by a grant from the BSSH. He has been awarded the esteemed Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for his pioneering Doctorate of Medicine (MD) research in plastic surgery.
He has won several academic prizes including: BAPRAS European Fellowship, Dunhill Medical Research Award, BMI Healthcare Fellowship award, BSSH best paper and FESSH travel award to name but a few. Mo is a reviewer for several academic journals including JPRAS. He has published over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals, and is a faculty member on the BSSH educational committee promoting education of the future surgeons.
